Oyo State Government Sets Date for New Olubadan’s Coronation

Selected Olubadan
The Oyo State Government has announced that the coronation of Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin as the Olubadan of Ibadanland will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Prince Dotun Oyelade, the State’s Commissioner for Information, revealed in a statement on Friday that Governor Seyi Makinde will present the Staff of Office to Oba Olakuleyin at a ceremony held at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The statement also called on the people of Ibadan to exercise patience. “Our people must learn to be patient and trust an administration that has not let them down in five years,” Oyelade said. He emphasized that despite various rumors and unfounded claims, Governor Makinde remains committed to justice and fairness.
The Oyo State Government urged residents, particularly those in Ibadan, to look forward to the coronation and presentation of the staff of office on July 12.
The position of Olubadan became vacant after the passing of Oba Mahood Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024. Oba Olakuleyin was appointed as the Olubadan-designate by the Ibadan kingmakers on April 12, 2024, in accordance with the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957.
Governor Makinde officially approved Oba Olakuleyin’s appointment in a memo dated June 14, 2024, following various speculations.
