Tinubu Approves Group Life Assurance for Fallen Troops
President Bola Tinubu has announced the approval of Group Life Assurance benefits for all members of the Nigerian Army who have died in the line of duty.
In his address at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Celebration held at the 3 Division in Rukuba, Bassa LGA of Plateau State, Tinubu urged the army to prevent violent groups from overpowering peaceful citizens, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to building a respected and well-equipped military.
The President, represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the army in fulfilling its constitutional duties. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of Nigerians in their homes and public spaces.
“The Nigerian Army is one of the most patriotic and selfless institutions in our nation, comprising individuals who have sacrificed their lives for our peace,” Tinubu remarked. “The army continues to make significant sacrifices to keep us safe amidst rising security challenges over the past decade and a half.”
He highlighted the army’s extensive deployment across all states, acknowledging their daily sacrifices. Quoting Winston Churchill, he said, “Never in the history of Nigeria have so many owed so much to so few.”
As Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to building a professional and well-equipped army, approving the Group Life Assurance for fallen soldiers and the procurement of attack helicopters and other essential equipment to enhance combat efficiency.
“Our security architecture must adapt to meet new threats,” he noted. “Nigerians must feel safe in their fields, on highways, in markets, and in their homes. The Nigerian Army remains the backbone of our security framework. You must continue your progress and develop strategies to prevent violent groups from overwhelming peaceful citizens.”
Tinubu urged the army to maintain professionalism and uphold justice, reinforcing their role as a proud institution with a history of unwavering service to the nation. “Your duty is not only to protect your country but also to act with integrity at all times. As your Commander-in-Chief, I trust you will do so.”
