Nigerians Launch Massive Protest in Abuja on Day 10
On Saturday, Nigerians took to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for a significant one-million-man march, marking the 10th day of their nationwide protest against hunger, economic hardship, and poor governance under President Bola Tinubu.
Protesters in Abuja carried banners and placards, as shown in images provided by SaharaReporters. Some of the signs read, “End Bad Governance in Nigeria” and “Nigerians are Tired of Bad Leaders.”
The nationwide demonstration, tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, aims to highlight the struggles caused by President Tinubu’s economic policies. Initially peaceful, the protests have faced increasing violence, with security forces targeting both demonstrators and media personnel.
SaharaReporters previously reported that hundreds of protesters were arrested at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on the third day of the protests. The situation worsened when police used tear gas to disperse the crowd on Saturday morning.
Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow movement leader Omoyele Sowore confirmed the violent response from the police, including the reported death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
Despite these challenges, protesters managed to reach Eagles Square on the first day of the demonstrations, though they were met with tear gas attacks from the police. The ongoing protests continue to address issues such as inflation, food shortages, and the rising cost of living.
While the government has alleged that the protests are externally funded, it has yet to provide evidence to support this claim.
