Jigawa Police Charge 390 Suspects for Vandalism During Recent Protests

The Jigawa State Police Command has formally charged 390 out of the 400 individuals detained for vandalism during recent anti-hunger demonstrations in the state.

Commissioner of Police Ahmadu Abdullahi disclosed this to journalists in Dutse on Thursday. He explained that these suspects were arrested during several protests that resulted in the destruction and looting of both government and public property across the state.

Abdullahi stated, “We detained 400 protesters, and 390 of them have now been arraigned and convicted.” He noted that these individuals were involved in vandalizing and looting across 10 local government areas, including Babura and Hadeja, where state government fertilizer stores were targeted.

The Commissioner identified other affected local government areas as Kiyaye, Hadeja, Kazaure, Kaugama, Malammadori, and Gumel, among others. He also mentioned that the police had managed to recover some of the stolen property.

Abdullahi praised the police force for their dedication and resilience in managing the protests, despite facing manpower shortages. “I commend our officers and men for their hard work and commitment in handling the situation,” he added.
