Man Arrested for Stealing Ex-Boss’s Car to Fund Father’s Burial

Joseph Ada, a suspected car thief, has been apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command. He revealed that his intention was to sell his former boss’s car to finance his father’s burial.
This information was shared in a statement posted on the RRS Facebook page on Friday. According to the report, Ada had managed to duplicate the key of the vehicle while working as a driver for his boss before being dismissed in June.
He allegedly stole the Toyota Camry, a 2015 model, from its parking spot in the Lekki area on Wednesday morning and headed to Ikeja with plans to sell it. However, he was intercepted by RRS operatives who acted on credible intelligence.
The statement detailed the timeline: “At around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, RRS operatives arrested Ada, 27, in Ikeja while he was attempting to sell the car belonging to his former employer. He had stolen the vehicle from Osapa, London, Lekki around 7:00 a.m. and was already in the Central Business District, Alausa, seeking a buyer by 11:00 a.m.”
Ada had worked for his employer for about a year before being let go in June 2024. Unbeknownst to his boss, he had plotted to duplicate the key prior to his dismissal.
Upon his arrest, Ada admitted that he had stolen the vehicle to generate funds for his father’s burial. The police later informed the vehicle’s owner, and both Ada and the recovered car have been taken to the State Command for further investigation.
In a similar case reported earlier, another suspect, Amos Daniel, was arrested on his first day as a driver for stealing his employer’s vehicle, claiming he intended to use it as a testimony of God’s provision at his church.
