First Baptist Church Garki Abuja Responds to Rumors Regarding Alleged N620 Million Fraud Involving Convention President

First Baptist Church in Garki, Abuja, has firmly rejected allegations of financial misconduct and fraud involving a sum of N620 million against its former Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Israel Adelani Akanji, FAR, who now serves as the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

The church’s leadership has issued a statement condemning the rumors circulating on social media that target Rev. Dr. Akanji. They clarified that there has been no mismanagement or illegal conversion of funds or assets.

According to the church, its financial records are in good order, regularly audited, and overseen by qualified financial professionals. Every transaction during Rev. Dr. Akanji’s leadership followed the church’s established protocols and policies. Under his guidance, the church grew significantly, becoming one of the most prominent members of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
The church’s Board of Trustees (BOT) has not filed any complaints with law enforcement, and any legal actions being pursued are described by church officials as being motivated by “malevolent forces” seeking to tarnish the church’s reputation.
In light of these false claims, the church has expressed gratitude for the support and concern shown by those affected. With unwavering faith and conviction, the church asserts that it will remain steadfast, continuing to move forward undistracted by these challenges.
