Benue Killings: If Tinubu Wants Us to Reconcile, Then He Must Show Us the Killers – Gbillah

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Mark Gbillah, has raised serious questions over President Bola Tinubu’s call for peace and reconciliation in the wake of repeated attacks in Benue State. Gbillah, reacting to the President’s remarks, said urging communities to reconcile with their attackers implies the government may know who these killers are.

In his statement, Gbillah expressed frustration over the federal government’s handling of the crisis, which has left countless innocent citizens dead and displaced.

“Calling for reconciliation without first ensuring justice is not only insensitive—it suggests complicity,” Gbillah said. “If the President is asking us to make peace with those who slaughter our people, does that not mean he knows them?”

He also criticized what he described as a lack of decisive action from security agencies and accused the administration of failing to protect lives, especially in regions consistently targeted by armed herdsmen and militia groups.

Gbillah demanded that justice must come before reconciliation, calling on the federal government to first identify and prosecute the perpetrators before any dialogue can begin.
