AMBO Did Not Stop Osogbo Stadium Project — Former Special Adviser on Youth and Sports

AMBO Did Not Stop Osogbo Stadium Project — Former Special Adviser on Youth and Sports

My attention has been drawn to another round of deliberate falsehoods being peddled to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the Osun APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

These individuals have falsely claimed that Asiwaju Oyebamiji, while serving as Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, stopped the construction of the Osogbo Stadium project. Oyebamiji never stopped any project, much more the Osogbo Stadium project. Such a claim against the former commissioner is not only misleading but also exposes the deep ignorance of the accusers regarding the workings of government.

Let’s make the record straight: government projects are collective decisions backed by official approvals and institutional processes, not personal whims. Such approvals can only be stopped by the institution which initiated them. Also, such project approvals are implemented subject to the availability of funds at every given period.

Therefore, only characters driven by mischief and lacking a basic understanding of governance would suggest that a commissioner, no matter how influential, can unilaterally stop a project that has been duly approved by the State Executive Council.

Having said the foregoing, it is important to shed more lights on circumstances surrounding the stadium project. The project, previously awarded by the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration, was reviewed upon assumption of office of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in line with prevailing realities.

The Osun State Executive Council specifically directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to engage the contractor and review the contract terms in the best interest of public good. The council finally approved that the project be executed in phases, beginning with perimeter fencing, followed by grassing and the installation of sporting facilities.

A significant progress was made on the fencing phase before boundary disputes and court actions initiated by some landgrabbers, popularly known as “Omo Onile,” halted further work.

After efforts to resolve the disputes, the contract was re-awarded, fund made available by the Ministry of Finance headed by Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and work resumed. Before Governor Oyetola left office, the grassing phase had been substantially completed. So it is not correct that the Osogbo Stadium project was abandoned by the Oyetola government or frustrated by AMBO.

Members of the public, are, therefore, urged to disregard the misinformation being spread for political purposes.

Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) has an established record of service, transparency, and commitment to the development of Osun State. No amount of distortion can diminish his contributions to the state’s progress.

AMBO is youth-friendly. When elected Governor of Osun State, he will implement his 7-Point Prosperity Agenda, with a focus on job creation, youth and sports development, wealth creation, quality education, technical and vocational training, and improved welfare for the people.

Signed:
Aremo Adegboyega Lateef Adelabu
Former Special Adviser Youth and Sports
Osun State Government
