Governor Adeleke and the Mismanagement of Osun State’s #108 Billion Local Government Funds

HE Ademola Adeleke
In the year 2024, Osun State received a staggering ₦108 billion on behalf of its 30 local government areas. This amount was meant to support grassroots development, fund key infrastructure, and improve the quality of life for millions of citizens across the state.

However, records show that only ₦471 million was spent on capital projects for all the local governments combined. That’s less than 1% of the total funds received and a mere ₦15 million per local government on average.

The question must be asked: Where did the rest of the money go?

Under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, there is growing concern that public funds have been grossly mismanaged or worse, embezzled. Rather than being used to build roads, schools, hospitals, or water systems, the overwhelming majority of the funds remain unaccounted for.
This situation raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the priorities of Governor Adeleke’s administration. At a time when local communities are crying out for development, it is unacceptable that such vast resources have produced so little result.
The people of Osun State deserve answers. More importantly, they deserve leadership that protects public funds, not one that squanders or diverts them.
