Heartbreak in Ikeja: Lady Weeps After Fufu Found in New Phone Package

The bustling hub of Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, was thrown into drama after a young woman broke down in tears upon discovering that the “brand new” phone she had just purchased contained nothing but neatly wrapped fufu.
Eyewitnesses said the woman, who had saved for months to buy the gadget, was left in shock when she unboxed the package in public, only to be greeted by the unmistakable sight of the local delicacy instead of the sleek device she was expecting.
The scene quickly drew a crowd, with onlookers expressing both sympathy and disbelief. Some blamed the growing sophistication of fraudsters in Computer Village, while others cautioned shoppers to always test gadgets before handing over money.
“I told her to check it inside the shop, but she trusted the seller,” one eyewitness remarked. “By the time she opened it outside, it was too late.”
Computer Village, Nigeria’s largest tech market, has long battled issues of counterfeit products and fraudulent transactions despite ongoing crackdowns by authorities. Security operatives often warn customers to be vigilant and only buy from verified stores.
The unidentified woman’s experience has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and renewed calls for tighter regulation in the market. Many Nigerians online described the act as “heartless,” noting how devastating it must be for someone who worked hard to raise money for a phone.
As of press time, it remains unclear whether the perpetrators have been caught. However, authorities have once again urged buyers to insist on testing all gadgets in the presence of sellers before leaving the shop.
What was supposed to be a joyful moment of unboxing a dream phone instead turned into heartbreak—an unfortunate reminder of the dangers lurking in Nigeria’s l
argest tech hub.
