Tunji Ojo Vindicated, Police Confirm NYSC Certificate Authentic

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, falsified or tampered with his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, describing the allegations as entirely unfounded.

Assistant Commissioner of Police and Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said on Friday that a thorough investigation confirmed the authenticity of the minister’s NYSC certificate. “After an exhaustive investigation, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, alteration, falsification, or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate. The NYSC was contacted and verified that the certificate was duly issued to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded,” Hundeyin stated.

The clarification follows protests on Thursday in Abuja by youth and civil society organizations, who accused Tunji-Ojo of providing inconsistent information regarding his NYSC records. The demonstrators had called on the minister to publicly address the claims, emphasizing that such allegations could affect accountability and transparency in public office.

During the protest, participants argued, “We want accountability, and we want everyone to be treated equally. What is good for one person should be good for all. If other ministers could resign over similar issues, we do not see why he should remain in office.”

The police statement aims to restore public confidence, affirming that there is no wrongdoing on the part of the Interior Minister, while underscoring the importance of verifying facts before raising allegations that may undermine trust in government institutions.
