IGP Disu Storms Borno Blast Zone, Vows Zero Tolerance for Security Lapses

Maiduguri, Borno State, In a swift response to the recent bomb explosion that injured several residents, the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc, NPM, paid a working visit to Borno State on Tuesday, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety of citizens in the North-East.
During the visit, the IGP met with victims receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and expressed deep sympathy for those affected. The Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Umar Kadafur, received the police chief and praised his rapid response. “For an incident that happened last night and for you to be on the ground this morning is a sign of seriousness,” Kadafur said, describing the visit as a morale booster for residents.
CP Nazir Abdulmajeed, Commissioner of Police in Borno State, welcomed IGP Disu and commended the Federal Government for its timely intervention. The IGP also visited Monday Market, the site of the blast, to assess the extent of the damage and engage with local stakeholders.
In meetings with senior officers, including the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of Operations and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mobile Force, Disu emphasised proactive policing, strengthened intelligence gathering, and vigilance across the state.
“Officers must remain alert, gather intelligence diligently, and act proactively to safeguard lives and property,” the IGP said. “We will continue to provide the necessary logistics and security tools to enhance operational efficiency.”
According to The Punch, the visit reflects ongoing efforts to reinforce security across the North-East amid heightened threats from insurgent activities. Citizens were urged to remain security-conscious and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order.
The visit comes as part of a broader strategy by the Nigerian Police Force to ensure rapid response and support for communities affected by violent incidents, highlighting the growing focus on public safety in volatile regions.
