FG Kicks Off 56km Ekiti–Osun Link Road to Boost Regional Trade

The Federal Government has officially commenced construction of the 56.18-kilometre Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure road, a strategic route linking Ekiti State with Osun State, with work expected to span 24 months, The Guardian reports.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed on Tuesday that the contract has been awarded to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, with construction already underway along the Erio-Ekiti axis. “The project has moved beyond planning. The site has been handed over to the contractor, and work has commenced, reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering this critical infrastructure on schedule,” he said during a briefing in Ado-Ekiti.

The road, starting from Fajuyi Park in the state capital and extending to the Osun State boundary, will feature reinforced concrete construction, beginning at the Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti. The development is expected to significantly enhance mobility, ease transportation challenges, and create new opportunities for trade and commerce across the Southwest as reported by Punch.

Olatunbosun described the initiative as a major socio-economic boost for Ekiti State and the wider region. “This project goes beyond road construction; it is about improving lives, strengthening economic ties, and enhancing regional integration. We appreciate the Federal Government for this intervention and pledge our support to ensure its successful completion,” he said.

The commissioner also highlighted Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts in engaging federal authorities to secure the project, while commending President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling infrastructure promises made during his campaign.

Road users have been urged to cooperate with contractors and authorities, adhere to traffic regulations, and observe safety measures throughout the construction period to ensure smooth progress.

Analysts note that once completed, the Ekiti–Osun link will serve as a critical corridor for commercial transport, connecting agricultural hubs, markets, and industrial zones, thereby stimulating economic activity across the states as reported by Vanguard.
