Gunmen Attack Anambra Police Station: See the Number of Police Killed

On Monday, the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen, leading to the deaths of two police officers.
The assailants launched their attack in the early morning hours, initially firing shots into the air before breaching the station’s premises. According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the gunmen surprised the officers, causing fatalities and significant damage. They also used improvised explosive devices to set parts of the building on fire.
One eyewitness recounted, “The attackers fired into the air as they approached the station. The noise woke up the neighborhood and caused widespread panic. They injured several officers during their entry and set parts of the station ablaze. The police eventually fought back, and the attackers fled.”
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt is underway for the perpetrators. He reported that Joint Security Forces recovered five unexploded improvised devices from the scene and are working to identify and capture the attackers.
Ikenga noted, “The assailants used improvised explosives and sporadic gunfire during their attack, which led to the deaths of two officers. Their bodies have been recovered and sent to the morgue. An investigation into the attack’s motives and perpetrators is ongoing.”
