How Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Woman in Anambra
A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver along the Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra on the night of May 31, as reported by the state Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the FRSC Commander in Anambra, informed reporters in Awka on June 1 that the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding.
The accident involved an unidentified driver of a Toyota Hiace commercial bus, which lacked a registration number, traveling towards Upper Iweka, Onitsha.
“Eyewitnesses reported that the speeding driver hit a female pedestrian and then fled the scene. The FRSC rescue team arrived promptly and transported the victim to Toronto Mortuary, where a doctor confirmed her death,” Irelewuyi stated.
Expressing condolences to the victim’s family, Irelewuyi urged motorists to adhere to speed limits, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent such tragedies.
