How Tinubu Persuaded Me to Drop Suit Against APC, Aiyedatiwa – Jimoh Ibrahim

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim revealed that President Bola Tinubu played a key role in his decision to withdraw the lawsuit challenging the recent gubernatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. Ibrahim had initially filed the suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, naming the APC and Governor Aiyedatiwa, who won the primary, as defendants.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ibrahim explained, “I have withdrawn the suit following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. The President personally reached out to me, held a meeting, and assured me that he, as the party leader, would work to enhance internal democracy within the APC. He asked me to withdraw the case to facilitate this progress.”
Ibrahim emphasized his respect for the President, stating, “I cannot disobey the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. My goal was not personal; it was to foster internal democracy, a commitment the President has vowed to uphold. My respect for the President is unwavering.”
He expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, saying, “I want to thank the President for his wisdom and encouragement during our hour-long meeting and subsequent phone conversations. He repeatedly affirmed his dedication to internal democracy. Thank you, Mr. President.”
Ibrahim noted that the withdrawal of his lawsuit coincides with the first anniversary of President Tinubu’s tenure, adding, “This is my gift in celebration of the President’s remarkable first year in office.”
