How Troops Successfully Prevent Boko Haram/ISWAP Drone Attack in Buni Gari
Troops from the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, successfully disrupted a drone strike attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP militants in Buni Gari on Wednesday during the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity IV.
A military source, who requested anonymity, revealed that an armed drone, linked to the insurgent groups, was spotted approaching the 27 Task Force Brigade headquarters at around 16:35 hours.
Reacting swiftly, Nigerian forces engaged and shot down the drone before it could release its rocket payload. The rocket was safely detonated by the troops and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists without any casualties.
The source added: “At approximately 16:35 hours on December 25, 2024, a hostile drone was seen heading toward the 27 Task Force Brigade camp at Buni Gari. The troops quickly responded and brought it down before it could deploy its rocket. No personnel were injured, and the rocket was neutralized by EOD in place.”
Following the incident, military surveillance drones were deployed to conduct further checks, but no additional threats were detected.
The troops remain on high alert, and the security situation in the region remains fluid. However, morale and operational readiness remain strong.
This marks the second reported incident of drone attacks targeting military installations. The first took place in Borno State, where five soldiers were wounded.
