International Peace Ambassadors Forum Condemns Anambra Govt’s Media Attack on Bianca Ojukwu

PRESS STATEMENT
RE: A RESPONSE TO THE MEDIA ATTACK ON AMBASSADOR BIANCA OJUKWU BY ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT
The International Peace Ambassadors Forum, a global coalition dedicated to fostering dialogue, respect, and harmony among nations and peoples, strongly condemns the recent media statements and actions by the Anambra State Government directed against Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s esteemed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The government’s public dismissal of a chieftaincy title conferred upon Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu as “fake” and “illegal,” coupled with warnings for her to desist from using it and insinuations questioning her judgment, constitutes a deplorable and denigrating media attack on a distinguished Nigerian diplomat of impeccable pedigree and international standing. Such vitriolic pronouncements not only undermine the dignity of a high-ranking federal official but also erode the cultural institutions of Anambra State and sow seeds of unnecessary division within Nigeria’s socio-political fabric.
Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, widow of the legendary Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has devoted her life to public service, diplomacy, and the promotion of peace, values that align profoundly with our Forum’s mission. Her contributions to Nigeria’s foreign relations and her role as a unifying figure deserve reverence, not baseless public humiliation from a subnational entity.
This unwarranted assault on her person and reputation is an affront to national unity, mutual respect between federal and state authorities, and the principles of peaceful coexistence. It risks escalating tensions and distracting from the critical work of governance and nation-building.
The International Peace Ambassadors Forum warns the Anambra State Government that continued pursuit of such divisive and derogatory tactics will invite serious consequences, including heightened international scrutiny, diplomatic repercussions, and potential isolation from global peace initiatives and partnerships that benefit the people of Anambra and Nigeria at large.
We call for an immediate retraction of these inflammatory statements, a public apology to Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and a commitment to constructive dialogue. Peace demands respect; provocation invites peril.
In the spirit of reconciliation and progress,
Signed:
