IPOB Can’t Win Referendum, Igbos Prefer to Stay in Nigeria – Arewa Youths

Arewa Youth

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has stated that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Nnamdi Kanu, would lose if a referendum on Biafra’s independence were held.

AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima, noted that Igbos generally prefer to remain part of Nigeria rather than secede to form Biafra.

In an interview with the DAILY POST, Shettima acknowledged that, like Nnamdi Kanu, some Igbos are advocating for fairness, equity, and justice.

“As a Nigerian, I know that IPOB can’t win a referendum today because the average Igbo person wants to remain a Nigerian. All they are demanding is justice, equity, and fair play,” Shettima stated.

He added, “If there is a referendum within the Southeast, I’m sure IPOB will lose because most Igbos want to stay in Nigeria, apart from a few individuals with their own reasons for agitating.”

Shettima further explained that while not all Igbos support the agitation, many are afraid to speak out due to fear of certain individuals.

“I can tell you that if there is a referendum today, the Biafran voice will be heard, but the majority will ultimately prevail,” he concluded.
