Nigeria to Enjoy Stable Electricity Supply by 2026 — Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering steady, affordable, and sustainable electricity across the country by 2026.
This assurance was conveyed in a New Year message released on Friday in Abuja through his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji. According to the statement, Adelabu said improving power supply remains a central focus of the government’s agenda.
He noted that efforts in the coming year would build on existing reforms, with renewed momentum aimed at strengthening the national grid and expanding transmission capacity nationwide. The minister added that the government would deepen collaboration with electricity distribution companies to enhance service quality and accelerate metering projects in all communities.
Adelabu highlighted the *Light Up Nigeria* initiative as a key driver of economic development, explaining that the programme targets industrial zones and agricultural hubs to boost productivity and create jobs. He also said renewable energy solutions, including solar and hydropower, would be expanded to provide electricity to underserved and rural areas.
Reflecting on the outgoing year, the minister described 2025 as a period of careful planning and steady progress despite persistent challenges in the power sector. He said notable improvements were recorded in grid stability, largely due to ongoing interventions.
According to Adelabu, the Presidential Power Initiative—also known as the Siemens Project—has played a significant role in reducing the frequency of national grid failures. He expressed confidence that the completion of Phase One of the project would further reinforce the grid and minimise disruptions.
The minister commended Nigerians for their patience and resilience, stressing that public cooperation is essential to achieving long-term energy reforms. He called on all stakeholders—including state governments, private investors, communities, and citizens—to work together in safeguarding power infrastructure and embracing energy-efficient practices.
Addressing residents of Oyo State, Adelabu expressed gratitude for their continued support and assured them that the new year would bring tangible improvements in electricity supply nationwide.
