“No Osogbo Indigene, No Vote!” — Osun Progressive Youth Movement Warns APC Power Brokers
The political atmosphere in Osun State is heating up as the Osun Progressive Youth Movement (OPYM) has issued a strong warning to key stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party must present an indigene of Osogbo as its candidate in the forthcoming elections or risk losing massive grassroots support.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the group declared that the era of sidelining Osogbo—despite its strategic importance as the state capital—must come to an end. According to the movement, the people of Osogbo have demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the APC for years, yet continue to feel marginalized in critical political placements.
The youth body emphasized that the 2026 governorship election presents a decisive moment for the party to correct historical imbalances. “We are sounding this clearly: No Osogbo indigene on the ballot, no vote from our people. The APC cannot continue to rely on our numbers while giving us little in return,” the statement read.
OPYM accused certain “political gladiators” within the state chapter of the APC of deliberately suppressing the aspirations of qualified candidates from Osogbo in favor of their preferred interests. They described the pattern as unfair, divisive, and detrimental to the party’s long-term stability.
The group further noted that Osogbo’s growing youth population is politically conscious and prepared to assert its democratic power. They warned that any attempt to ignore their demand would result in a significant electoral backlash that could weaken the APC’s chances at the polls.
“Osogbo has sacrificed enough. This time, we are taking our destiny into our own hands. The APC leadership must recognize the importance of giving the capital city a fair chance. We will no longer be silent spectators,” OPYM stressed.
They appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and other progressive-minded stakeholders to intervene and ensure equity in the party’s decision-making process. The movement also called on APC national leadership to monitor developments in Osun to prevent internal crises that could affect the party’s performance.
As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of party primaries, the stance of the Osun Progressive Youth Movement adds a new layer of pressure on the APC. Whether the party will heed the demand remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—the youth of Osogbo are ready to wield their electoral influence like never before.
