Police Seize Explosives-Laden Vehicles in Daura, Katsina State

Katsina State Police operatives have intercepted a vehicle carrying a large quantity of explosives in Daura Local Government Area. According to a statement released on Tuesday by the police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the operation took place at a checkpoint in Koza during an intelligence-led stop and search on January 7.

The suspect, 40-year-old Jamilu Musa, was driving a Golf vehicle containing 6,975 detonators that were carefully hidden. During questioning, Musa reportedly admitted that he received the explosives from a man named Najib, who remains at large, while transporting them from Kano State to Kongolam, Mai’adua LGA.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Ibrahim Murtala and Sulaiman Muhammad, from whom police recovered 7,500 electric detonators and 30½ bags of gelatine weighing 2,273.65 kilograms. The suspects confessed to involvement in the crime and will be charged in court once investigations are complete. DSP Aliyu added that efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing. He stressed that the operation aligns with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s directive for heightened vigilance and intelligence-driven patrols along highways. Katsina State Police, under CP Bello Shehu, affirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through sustained intelligence-led operations.
