See how Hunters Rescue Kidnapped Victim in Anambra, Capture Kidnapper

The Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) has successfully rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Chukwunonso Nzekwe, in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. John Metchie, the Deputy Commander-General of NHFSS in charge of Intelligence, confirmed the rescue operation, which took place on Saturday in collaboration with the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade (Ochabrigade).

According to Metchie, the victim, a building engineer, was abducted during a prayer session held by Catholic Church parishes in the Nimo community. Following the abduction, the kidnappers took Nzekwe to Agu Urukwelora village in Egbengwu Ojideleke Nimo. NHFSS intelligence officers, stationed in the village, were able to spot the kidnappers hiding in the bush.

Metchie stated, “The intelligence officer immediately alerted a retired Superintendent of Police. In response, a team of officers swiftly apprehended one of the suspects, who hails from Nasarawa State and resides in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.”

While some of the kidnappers managed to escape after an intense gunfight, the victim was successfully rescued. A locally made firearm was also seized during the operation. The captured suspect was handed over to the police at the Rapid Response Unit in Awkuzu for further investigation.

Metchie praised the bravery of the rescue team and reaffirmed the NHFSS’s commitment to keeping Anambra’s forests safe from criminal activities. He also called on the public to share any relevant information to aid in addressing security challenges, urging citizens to report suspicious activities by adopting the “see something, say something” approach.

He further acknowledged the leadership of Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, the Commander-General of NHFSS, for his transformational guidance, and commended Mr. Destiny Jonas, the Anambra State Commander, for his dedication to the service.
