Why APGA Rejects Abia LG Election Results, Vows to Take Legal Action to Reclaim Its Mandate

The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rejected the results of the Abia State local government elections held on November 2, citing allegations of electoral malpractice, according to ABN TV reports.

In a press briefing on Tuesday in Umuahia, the party’s acting chairman in the state, Hon. Onuouha Egbe Benon, stated that the election outcome, as announced by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), did not reflect the true events of the voting process.

APGA officials emphasized that after thoroughly reviewing the election, they are determined to challenge the results in court, asserting that they have gathered substantial evidence to prove that the party emerged victorious.

“We have carefully reviewed what transpired during the election and have received sufficient feedback to conclude that the process was neither free nor fair, as claimed by ABSIEC,” Benon said. “We have concrete evidence showing that APGA won both the LGA chairmanship and councillorship positions.”

The party also accused ABSIEC of prematurely announcing the results while the collation process was still ongoing, and claimed that its agents were denied access to the collation centers. Additionally, APGA argued that votes in its favor were deliberately underreported.

Expressing confidence in the judicial process, APGA pledged to pursue the matter in court, with the hope of obtaining a fair resolution and reclaiming what they consider their rightful mandate.
