Vice President, Shettima: What we must do to Combat Poverty and Improve Living Standards in Nigeria

Vice President, Shetima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a robust coalition among government officials and development partners to combat poverty and enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians. He emphasized that success in these areas requires unified efforts across all levels of governance to create an environment where every Nigerian has the chance to succeed.

Speaking at the 144th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Shettima proposed both immediate and long-term strategies to meet citizens’ needs. He stressed the importance of building sustainable systems that enable self-reliance and prosperity.

While acknowledging the complexity of the challenges faced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Shettima noted the need for swift, impactful interventions alongside ongoing long-term solutions. “To alleviate poverty and improve lives, we must work together to create opportunities for every Nigerian,” Shettima stated. “This involves not only addressing immediate concerns but also developing enduring systems that foster self-sufficiency and prosperity.”

Shettima praised the contributions of development partners, specifically Bill Gates, Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group. He recognized their significant investments in areas such as health, nutrition, agriculture, and education as vital to Nigeria’s progress.

He remarked, “Their ongoing philanthropy has been crucial in shaping our nation’s future. We have not overcome our challenges solely through government efforts; our survival through tough times has been greatly supported by our partners.” Shettima extended profound gratitude to these distinguished individuals for their unwavering commitment and empathy.
