Bandits Kill 11 in Katsina State, Police Confirm

The Katsina State Police Command has verified that 11 people were killed in an attack by bandits in three villages within Bakori Local Government Area.

Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Public Relations Officer of the command, released a statement in Katsina on Sunday to address the incident.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Sadiq-Aliyu refuted a report claiming that 40 individuals had been killed in the attack, stating:

“We are aware of misleading information circulating on platforms like Facebook, suggesting that bandits attacked three villages in Bakori and killed 40 people. The command wishes to categorically debunk this claim as misleading and set the record straight.”

Sadiq-Aliyu detailed the events of May 25, 2024, when bandits attacked Unguwar Lamido village in Bakori, resulting in 11 fatalities. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Bakori swiftly deployed operatives to the scene, where they managed to restore order and prevent further casualties.

He emphasized the importance of the public disregarding the false report and warned against spreading unverified information. He urged people to verify news through official channels to avoid causing unnecessary panic and tension.

Sadiq-Aliyu conveyed the condolences of the state’s Commissioner of Police, A. A. Musa, to the victims’ families and condemned the attack. The Commissioner has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and has increased police presence in the area to ensure the perpetrators are caught.

“The Commissioner has also encouraged anyone with relevant information to assist in the investigation to help bring those responsible to justice. The command is actively working with community members and stakeholders to identify and apprehend the attackers,” Sadiq-Aliyu added.
