BIAFRA SOLDIERS KILLING: We are Progressing in Getting Right Information on Identifying Soldiers’ Killers

By Steve Oko

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State announced that credible information is beginning to emerge regarding the perpetrators behind the May 30 attack that resulted in the deaths of five soldiers in Aba. During his visit to the 144 Battalion in Osisioma, near Aba, Otti reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to apprehend those responsible for the crime. He also urged the Army to ensure that innocent individuals detained in connection with the incident are not wrongfully punished.

Otti suggested that the attack may have been carried out by individuals opposed to the progress in Abia State. He reassured the soldiers that the intelligence gathering would continue without affecting their morale. He encouraged them to stay focused on their duties and not be distracted by these criminal acts.

Additionally, the Governor announced a scholarship program for the children of the fallen soldiers and promised ongoing support for their families. He emphasized that the state would take care of these families, regardless of their origin, ensuring the children receive scholarships through university and that the widows receive necessary support.

Otti also appealed to the Army to conduct their investigations with care, mindful that some detained individuals may be innocent. He highlighted that while thorough investigation is essential, it is important to treat civilians with respect and avoid punishing the innocent alongside the guilty.

The Governor thanked the troops for their efforts in reducing crime in Abia State over the past year and encouraged them to remain vigilant and motivated. He reiterated his support for the soldiers and assured them that the state government would continue to back their efforts in protecting the citizens.

Lastly, Otti announced a 25 million Naira bounty for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the attack, demonstrating the government’s resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.
