Three individuals in Ekiti State have been brought before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti by the police, charged with possession of explosives.

Adamu Abdullahi, aged 46, Haruna Musa, aged 57, and Sanni Garba, aged 26, are facing a charge related to the possession of explosives.

Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the prosecuting officer, informed the court on Friday that the defendants allegedly committed the offense on June 5 in Ado Ekiti. He stated, “The defendants were found in possession of three 32mm cartridges, a detonating cord, and firing cables.”

Oriyomi emphasized that this contravened Section 1(c) and was punishable under Section 1(e) of the Explosive Act 1964 and Explosive Regulation 1967.

He requested an adjournment to allow time for further examination of the case and preparation of witnesses. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ademola Richard, counsel for the defendants, sought bail under conditions that would ensure their presence at future court proceedings.

Chief Magistrate Olarewaju Owoleso granted bail in the amount of N500,000 with one surety each in the same sum.

The case was adjourned until July 29 for further hearing.

In a separate incident, Rachael Olufogbe, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, was arrested by the police following an alleged physical assault on another student on Saturday.

According to reports from FIRST CLASS GISTS on Sunday, the incident occurred in a private hostel located in Oye Egbo, a community near the school premises. The altercation reportedly began over the use of a drying line in the hostel.

It was reported that the victim rearranged Olufogbe’s clothes on the clothesline to make space for her own, leading to a disagreement between the two students.

The situation escalated, with Olufogbe allegedly resorting to physical violence against the victim using a blade.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Sunday Fashina, confirmed the incident, stating, “The incident occurred outside the campus in a private hostel. Such behavior is not tolerated within the campus premises due to the established rules and regulations. The police are handling the matter, and we await the outcome of their investigation before proceeding with our own internal processes.”
