Ohanaeze Commends Tinubu, Umahi for Boosting South-East Economy
The leading Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has praised President Bola Tinubu and Works Minister David Umahi for their significant contributions to revitalizing the economy of the South-East region.
Ohanaeze highlighted the ongoing construction projects, particularly the planned expansion of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway (Aba segment) and the forthcoming completion of the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road, as key developments rekindling economic ties in Aba and its neighboring areas.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional secretary-general of Ohanaeze, the organization noted that these initiatives are ushering in a socio-economic revival for the historic commercial hub.
The statement included: “Aba has suffered economic decline for over two decades due to deteriorated road networks, which have deterred West African customers, local investors, and international traders from this important Igbo city. The neglect of critical federal highways leading to Aba by previous administrations from 1999 to 2023 has worsened the region’s isolation and economic hardships.
“The strong support of Ndigbo for President Tinubu and Senator David Umahi is rooted in their dedicated efforts to rectify the long-standing infrastructural shortcomings that have impeded the region’s prosperity.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasizes that the ongoing road construction projects led by President Tinubu demonstrate a deep commitment to revitalizing Aba, an economic hub with significant historical value to the Igbo community.
“The rapid and sustainable improvement of federal highways in Aba has dispelled the economic gloom, setting the stage for enduring prosperity and growth. Aba’s historical role as a regional trading center for West Africa has been hindered by inadequate infrastructure, impacting economic opportunities and discouraging potential customers from leveraging the city’s vibrant market.
“With the notable progress in infrastructure development over the past two decades, Ndigbo stands united in backing President Tinubu and Minister David Umahi in their commendable efforts to rejuvenate Aba and stimulate economic activities in the Southeast. The expected transformation of Aba’s economic landscape signifies not only a renewal for its residents but also heralds a new era of prosperity for the region as a whole.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on all stakeholders to acknowledge and support the transformative impact of the ongoing road rehabilitation projects initiated by President Tinubu and Minister David Umahi.
