Good news: Kalvin Phillips to Everton transfer has to happen after …

Everton signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips makes perfect sense for Sean Dyche’s side.

Dyche has admitted that his next Everton signing will need Premier League experience (Liverpool ECHO, 4 August), and given their strategy of targeting promising players on the back of poor seasons in Iliman Ndiaye and Jasper Lindstrom, Phillips ticks all the boxes for the Toffees.

The 28-year-old was once described as a “machine” by former Blues boss Frank Lampard for his performances representing England at Euro 2020. He became a regular for his country during his time at Leeds United but has seen his career wither away at Manchester City.

He has made 31 appearances for the Premier League champions since he arrived in 2022 and endured an underwhelming loan spell at West Ham United last season.

Everton should make a move for forgotten man Kalvin Phillips

Once an England regular, now on the fringes of Man City desperate for a move to revitalise his career, a move to Goodison Park could be the perfect solution.
Everton are in need of more midfielders, with James Garner a notable absentee from the 3-0 victory against Preston on Saturday and 34-year-old Idrissa Gueye being the Blues’ only other senior option in that department.
Dyche has had to be careful in the transfer market with Everton as the highest-profile documented side affected by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The sale of Amadaou Onana to Aston Villa for £50m helped ease the financial burden but the Blues must spend within their parameters to avoid further PSR sanctions.

Phillips could be available for a loan move and this would suit all parties. Throw in an option to buy in the deal and it would be perfect for the club.

He is entering his prime years at 28 years old and still has plenty to offer. He would also bring Champions League experience to Goodison Park and will be eager to revive his once-promising career.

This deal is a no-brainer for Everton, and if Dyche can allow Phillips to replicate his form from his time at Leeds, it could prove to be the best deal the club has made in a long time.
