Niger Police Detain 23 Suspects for Involvement in Tafa Riots Protest: See Names

In response to recent unrest in Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State, police have detained 23 individuals believed to be connected to violent protests that occurred on August 1 during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.

 

The suspects were presented to the media by Niger State Commissioner of Police Shawulu Danmamman at a press briefing held at the police headquarters in Minna on Wednesday. They face charges including criminal trespass, arson, burglary, association with criminal gangs, and theft of government property.

 

Commissioner Danmamman reported that the unrest took place around 10:00 AM when groups from Tafa and neighboring areas, including Kagarko in Kaduna State and Sabon-Wuse and Hayin-Dikko in Niger State, attacked the Tafa LGA Secretariat. The rioters looted office equipment, including computers, refrigerators, file cabinets, ceiling fans, and televisions.

 

The police responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects who were found with various dangerous weapons. Most of the stolen items have been recovered, primarily from Kagarko.

 

The identified suspects include:

– Musa Umar, 24

– Aliyu Ibrahim, 13

– Shamsudeen Abdullahi, 25

– Auwal Sanusi, 30

– Isiyaku Sanusi, 10

– Ahmed Muktar, 20

– Ashiru Abdullahi, alias Yellow, 10

– Justice Danjuma, 19

– Ismaila Aliyu, 26

– Aliyu Betara, 24

– Musa Sani, 32

– Yasir Ibrahim, 13

– Abdullahi Yusuf, 26

– Bakir Hussaini, 15

– Ahmad Jibrin, 18

– Abubakar Salisu, 18

– Yusufu Tijani, 28

– Lawal Abdullahi, 35

– Idris Sani, 21

– Ibrahim Haruna, 35

– Ibrahim Nuhu, 18

– Abdulrahman Abubakar, 18

– Saifullahi Usman, 24

 

Confiscated items include office furniture, car side mirrors, extension cords, reflective jackets, ceiling fans, calculators, laptops, generators, and office televisions.

 

These items have been returned to the LGA Secretariat, and the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further questioning. They will face legal proceedings once the investigation is completed.

 

Commissioner Danmamman expressed gratitude to the residents, youth, and state government for their role in restoring order. He urged continued cooperation with security forces to ensure the p

eaceful conclusion of ongoing protests.
