Edo Train Station Kidnapping: Key Suspect Arrested in Major Breakthrough

A 26-year-old suspect, Ehis Jonah, has been detained by the Edo State Police in relation to the January 7, 2023, train station kidnapping in Igueben, Edo Central Senatorial District.

Jonah, who was among 12 individuals paraded by the police on Friday, admitted to assisting in the kidnapping by providing logistical support using his motorcycle. He reported earning N2 million from the criminal operation.

In an interview, Jonah revealed, “I am a motorcycle rider and was hired by Amenvbagbe Ogelegbe to transport him and others to the train station for the kidnapping. He promised me payment, and after the operation, he gave me N2 million as my share.”

Police spokesperson Moses Yamu detailed Jonah’s capture, noting that he was arrested on September 1, 2024, after a police patrol stopped a motorcycle carrying him and two others.

Yamu explained, “During questioning, a Techno Spark 9 phone in their possession rang. The caller, identified as Gazali Hassan, reported that the phone’s owner had been missing since August 31 along with his motorcycle. This led to an investigation, revealing that the suspects had killed Hassan and stolen his motorcycle.”

Police later recovered Hassan’s body near the Idumoza pipeline in Uromi. Yamu also noted that further inquiries resulted in the arrest of seven additional suspects involved in the kidnapping and other crimes, including the Osigholo filling station robbery and the Igueben train sta

tion attack.
