Labour Party Crisis: Abure Accuses Peter Obi and Alex Otti of Betrayal, Blames Okupe and Oshuntokun for Campaign Fund Mismanagement; Give Reasons

Julius Abure, the factional national chairman of the Labour Party, has accused Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti of betraying the party that supported their political aspirations. Abure asserted that the mismanagement of campaign funds should be attributed to the former directors of the Obi/Datti Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe and Akin Oshuntokun, who were responsible for handling these funds.

Addressing his National Working Committee in Abuja on Monday, Abure criticized the recent unauthorized meeting led by Obi and Otti in Abia State, which sought to establish a new party leadership. He described this action as both illegal and a betrayal of the Labour Party’s core values, labeling it as an act of ingratitude and insubordination.
Abure refuted claims made by Governor Alex Otti regarding a Supreme Court ruling against him, asserting that no such ruling exists. He also clarified that issues concerning party agents for the Edo governorship election were managed by the party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, and not by him or the party.
On the topic of campaign fund management, Abure distanced himself from allegations of mismanagement. He explained that the campaign funds were handled by Doyin Okupe and Akin Oshuntokun for the Southern States, while the funds for the Northern States were managed by the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, with Peter Obi overseeing the overall campaign funding.
Abure vowed to uphold the mandate given to him and his colleagues in the party’s recent convention, declaring that no amount of intimidation will force them to relinquish their leadership positions.
