See How 5-Year-Old Dies, 4 Injured in Anambra Road Accident

A five-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, has died following a road accident in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday morning. Four other individuals sustained serious injuries in the crash.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the Onitsha-Enugu Old Road near Oye Agu Junction, Abagana. A Toyota Sienna, transporting passengers to Lagos, experienced brake failure and collided with roadside traders at the junction.

In response to the accident, Police Commissioner CP Nnaghe Obono Itam urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are thoroughly checked before use. Initial details are sparse, but reports indicate significant damage to goods and possibly more fatalities.

A video circulating on social media shows the damaged Sienna and the aftermath of the crash, including overturned food items and damaged wares. The market area, known for its roadside food vendors, was heavily impacted.

Engr. Ben Okongwu, President-General of the Abagana community, confirmed that at least three people have died.

Ikenga reported that the police have directed the arrest and questioning of the driver, who lost control of the vehicle. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson for Anambra State, RC Margaret Onabe, stated that she was unaware of the incident.

The vehicle has been impounded, and an investigation is underway.
