See How govt officials spend lavishly while Nigeria is broke — Afenifere chieftain

Segun Sanni, Chief Economist at Afenifere, has criticized the lavish spending habits of government officials despite Nigeria’s financial difficulties. In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Sanni condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its extravagant expenditures.

Sanni pointed out the stark contrast between the government’s opulent spending and the country’s economic struggles. He highlighted specific examples, including ₦90 billion allocated for the hajj, ₦21 billion for a new vice president’s residence, and ₦40.6 billion set aside for renovations at Aso Rock. Sanni argued that such expenditures are inconsistent with the government’s claims of financial hardship and called for immediate cost-cutting measures and enhanced transparency in financial matters.

“We see excessive spending by a government that cannot reasonably claim Nigeria is broke,” Sanni said. “With such high expenditures on projects and perks, it is clear that while the country suffers, government officials are living extravagantly. This disparity raises serious concerns about how resources are allocated and used.”
