18 Passengers Killed in Horrific Fire After Bus Crash on Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has reported the tragic deaths of 18 passengers in a devastating accident on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway, specifically in the Ogbere area of Ijebu East Local Government.
The incident involved a Toyota Hiace bus, registration number XA 690 AKU, and resulted in the bus catching fire, with all passengers burned beyond recognition. One person survived the accident with injuries. TRACE Public Relations Officer Babatunde Akinbiyi shared details in a statement from Abeokuta, the state capital.
Akinbiyi explained that the accident was caused by an explosion from petrol stored in a jerry can inside the bus. According to witnesses and the driver, the jerry can fell when the bus hit a rough patch of road, spilling fuel that ignited upon contact with the exhaust pipe, leading to the fire that engulfed the vehicle.
