Labour Party Responds to NLC Claims About LP Natl Chairman, Abure’s Supporting APC

The Labour Party issued a strong denial on Friday regarding claims that its National Chairman, Julius Abure, is covertly supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement came from Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, during a press briefing in Abuja.
Ifoh accused the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and former party member Kenneth Okonkwo of orchestrating a campaign against them, labeling the allegations as unfounded. He asserted that these rumors are a strategic effort to undermine the Labour Party and boost rival political factions.
“It is crucial for the Labour Party leadership to address the unfounded claims made by our opponents who are intent on destabilizing us,” Ifoh stated. “Following the recent court ruling that upheld Abure as our national chairman, individuals, including Kenneth Okonkwo and NLC Political Commission’s acting Chairman, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, have propagated the false narrative that Abure is aligned with the APC. They suggest this is why the Labour Party has been successful in its legal battles.”
Ifoh emphasized that these assertions are not only deceptive but also a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation and distract its leadership. He reaffirmed, “Let it be clear that the Labour Party operates independently and is not aligned with the APC.”
He also urged the NLC to refrain from interfering in the party’s matters and to concentrate on fulfilling the responsibilities for which they were elected.
