Governor Makinde: Southwest Voters Set to Reject APC in 2027 Elections
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that voters in the Southwest have become more discerning and are unlikely to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections due to the hardships they believe the party has caused.
As the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, Makinde noted that many Yoruba individuals across the region have recognized their previous support for Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections as a mistake.
In contrast, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje expressed confidence at a recent stakeholders meeting, asserting that the party aims to secure the Southwest for President Tinubu in 2027. Similarly, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa claimed that the opposition PDP has become insignificant in Ondo, stating that many former opposition leaders have joined the APC.
Responding to Ganduje and Aiyedatiwa’s claims, Makinde emphasized that the PDP remains strong in the Southwest and asserted that Ganduje would be surprised by the support for the PDP. “If wishes were horses, everyone would ride,” he remarked, assuring that the people of Ondo will make their voices heard on November 16, 2024.
Makinde further stated, “Talk is cheap. You can say whatever you want, but the people of Ondo will clearly express their preferences, and the entire country will take notice.”
