Court Bars CBN from Allocating Funds to Rivers State Government

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an injunction preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government.

The court ruled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s acceptance and distribution of these allocations since January constitutes a significant constitutional violation that cannot continue.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik emphasized that Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly undermines constitutional protocols. She highlighted that his actions in executing an unlawful budget represent serious breaches of the 1999 Constitution, which he vowed to uphold.

As a result, the judge has restrained the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank from allowing Fubara access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
