Anambra Police Arrest Couple for Attempted Kidnapping and Extortion

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a couple involved in sending threats and attempting to kidnap individuals. The suspects were arrested on Friday after joint efforts by police officers and vigilante groups, who acted on intelligence gathered through technology.
In a press release, the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the couple had been sending threatening messages to victims, demanding ransom under the threat of abduction or death.
The statement noted that the arrest occurred in the early hours of Friday in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as 36-year-old Okoye Kingsley and his 27-year-old wife, Chidinma Okoye, were taken into custody along with several phones and SIM cards used in the extortion scheme.
“The couple targeted unsuspecting individuals, sending threatening texts and voice notes, demanding money or threatening to abduct or kill their victims,” the statement said. “Both suspects have confessed to their crimes and admitted to destroying some of the SIM cards they used for these illegal activities.”
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, especially concerning a recent viral voice note about a victim who narrowly escaped an abduction attempt by someone posing as a security officer.
