Man Arrested for Stealing Goat to Celebrate Daughter’s Naming Ceremony in Ogun

A man, Akintoye Waris, has been arrested by operatives of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing a Savannah he-goat valued at N200,000 to use for his daughter’s naming ceremony. The arrest took place on January 2, 2024, in Odeda.
According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, Waris was apprehended alongside an accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf. The suspects reportedly targeted a local farm owned by a man named Mark, ensuring that Mark had taken the cattle out to graze on December 25. When Mark returned, he noticed one of the goats was missing and launched a search in the community.
The missing goat was later spotted being transported by the two suspects on a motorcycle, heading toward Olodo town. Acting on this information, the police quickly mobilized and arrested the suspects in the early hours of January 2, 2025.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to stealing the goat, which they slaughtered on December 27, 2024, for food to celebrate Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony in Olodo.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, where they are being investigated at the Divisional Crime Branch. Authorities have assured that the suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded, with further updates to follow.
