Anambra King Implicated in Kidnapping Scandal in Enugwu-Agidi Community

Yet To Be Identified Catholic priest reportedly kidnapped By Gunmen in Anambra

Tensions have escalated in Enugwu-Agidi community, Anambra State, following the arrest of Chukwudi Tansi, a suspected kidnapper with ties to the community’s security apparatus. Tansi, who served as a member of the Enugwu-Agidi Community Vigilante, was caught by Governor Soludo’s Agunechemba team with a stockpile of weapons, raising serious concerns about his involvement in the area’s criminal activities.

Adding to the controversy, the community’s traditional ruler, HRH Mike Okekeuche, has been implicated in the scandal, as revealed by the community’s President General (PG), Hon. Chukwuebuka Onuorah. Onuorah, in an interview with reporters, expressed his frustration and alleged that the traditional ruler had played a direct role in nominating Tansi to the Vigilante, despite previous warnings about his unlawful possession of firearms.

Onuorah revealed that he had taken drastic measures to address the situation, including writing to the Inspector General of Police about the threats to his life and Tansi’s illegal actions. In his letter, Onuorah detailed multiple incidents of intimidation by HRH Okekeuche’s associates, who are allegedly affiliated with the outlawed IPOB group. Onuorah described being surrounded by armed individuals at his home on March 29, 2024, who claimed to be police officers acting under the instruction of the traditional ruler. He was forcibly taken to an undisclosed location, where he was warned to step down from his position as President General or face further harm.

Part of Onuorah’s letter to the Inspector-General of Police reads:

“Since my inauguration, I’ve faced repeated threats from HRH Mike Okekeuche and his associates, including Chukwudi Tansi and Okonkwo Clement Ugochukwu. These individuals, who are linked to IPOB, have openly threatened my life, demanding I relinquish my role as President General in favor of the Igwe’s preferred candidate.”

Onuorah further alleged that local police officers were intimidated by these armed individuals, leaving him with little recourse but to flee for his safety. He called for immediate intervention from the police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the threats and criminal activities in the region.

A local resident, Ezeobi, took to social media to express concerns that influential figures in the community were enabling Tansi’s criminal behavior, thereby preventing him from facing justice. This, according to Ezeobi, only deepens the insecurity in the area and threatens the safety of law-abiding citizens.

In light of the disturbing revelations, PG Onuorah is now calling for a full-scale investigation to identify and dismantle the network of individuals protecting criminals like Chukwudi Tansi, with the hope of restoring peace and justice to

Enugwu-Agidi.
