Benue Assembly Lifts Suspension on Final Seven Lawmakers

The Benue State House of Assembly has officially reinstated the last group of seven lawmakers who were suspended in February 2025, ending a prolonged disciplinary saga that had attracted significant public interest.
The lawmakers reinstated include Douglas Akya (Makurdi South), Becky Orpin (Gboko East), Manger Manger (Tarka), Ezrah Nyiyongu (Ukum), Jonathan Agbidye (Katsina-Ala East), and Samuel Agada.
This move follows the earlier recall of six other suspended members last month, signaling a full resolution of the internal crisis.
According to the House, the decision to reinstate the lawmakers came after they expressed regret over their actions and committed to upholding decorum in future legislative activities.
At Tuesday’s plenary session, the Majority Leader, Comrade Saater Tiseer, presented a letter requesting their reinstatement. The motion received widespread support, with lawmakers such as Bemdoo Ipusu and Elias Audu speaking in favor, emphasizing reconciliation and forgiveness.
Members also praised Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh and the House leadership for handling the matter with maturity and fairness.
