Nigerian Woman Returns ₦330 Million Accidentally Credited to Her Account

In an extraordinary act of honesty, a Nigerian woman, Aisha Isah Yelwa, has returned ₦330 million that was mistakenly deposited into her bank account. Mrs. Yelwa, a small-scale trader from Lapai, Niger State, discovered the unexpected balance in her First Bank account around 3:49 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, according to *Eyes of Lagos*.

She explained that the discovery came shortly after visiting the bank to resolve repeated deductions linked to loans she had previously taken for her business. “I was just checking to see if the loan deductions had stopped when I noticed the money. I was confused and scared,” she recalled. There was no notification, transaction description, or explanation about the source of the funds, which immediately raised alarm.

Recognizing that the money did not belong to her, Mrs. Yelwa promptly informed bank officials and worked closely with them to ensure the full amount was returned to its rightful owner. Her integrity has been widely praised online, with many Nigerians commending her for demonstrating honesty at a time when financial fraud is common.

Commentators noted that returning such a large sum, especially as a small-scale trader, is a testament to her strong values and personal ethics. As of this report, First Bank has not yet released an official statement explaining how the error occurred or confirming the recovery of the funds.
