Bandits Kidnap Police Inspector, Two Others in Kano, Force Ransom Pleas on Camera

Suspected bandits have abducted a serving police inspector attached to the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, along with two other men, subjecting them to violent abuse while recording videos of them pleading for ransom.
The victims have been identified as Inspector Kabiru Bello Adamu, an officer with the Police Academy, Wudil; Muntari; and Musa Rabiu, also known as Danladi. All three are reportedly from Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
In a disturbing video circulating online, the abductees appeared visibly distressed as armed men aimed weapons at them, beat them with sticks, and struck them repeatedly with the butts of AK-47 rifles. The captives were forced to beg their families and the public for help, appealing for ransom to secure their release.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed that the victims were kidnapped while travelling from Rijiya Zaki Motor Park in Kano en route to Kebbi State. “Inspector Kabiru Bello is a serving police officer attached to the Police Academy, Wudil. They were abducted during the journey to Kebbi,” the source said.
In the footage, Inspector Kabiru identified himself and explained in Hausa that he was travelling to Kebbi to visit relatives and former colleagues when they were intercepted by armed men in a remote area. Speaking under visible duress, he appealed for mercy and called for a peaceful resolution, citing their families and loved ones.
Another victim, Muntari, also pleaded emotionally for assistance, calling on friends and members of the public to help them escape their ordeal. Similarly, Musa Rabiu said the group was travelling from Kano to Birnin Kebbi when they encountered the bandits along the route.
At one point during the recording, Rabiu remarked that the abductors were treating them well, a statement that angered one of the gunmen. This prompted further beatings, as the captives cried out repeatedly for forgiveness and help.
The incident underscores the worsening security situation in northern Nigeria, where travellers—including security personnel—are increasingly targeted by armed groups operating along highways and rural routes.
Despite repeated assurances by authorities, abductions for ransom remain rampant, exposing citizens to grave danger. As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from police authorities regarding the kidnapping or any rescue operation.
