Wike–Fubara Dispute: Ajibola Basiru Faults Victor Giadom’s “So-Called Governor” Remark

Ajibola Basiru has criticised comments credited to Victor Giadom, describing it as inappropriate for a senior party official to refer to an elected governor as a “so-called governor.”
Basiru said it was regrettable that a member of the National Working Committee of the APC and Vice Chairman of the party in the South-South zone would use such language against a sitting governor from the same political party. According to him, regardless of personal loyalties or political alignments, such remarks fall short of the standards expected of someone occupying a sensitive leadership position.
He stressed that even if the governor involved did not belong to the APC, it would still be wrong to diminish the authority of an elected official for political convenience. Basiru noted that the office of a governor is a highly respected institution that deserves honour at all times, irrespective of political disagreements or personal conflicts.
He concluded that political differences should not justify disrespect for constitutional offices, warning that such conduct should not be encouraged under any circumstances
