Rivers Speaker Amaewhule Says Lawmakers Should Resign Amid Fubara Crisis, Give Reasons

Martins Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has suggested that it might be better for all state lawmakers to step down rather than remain in office as powerless observers while the constitution is allegedly undermined.
Speaking during Thursday’s plenary session, Amaewhule emphasized that the current political tension is not a personal dispute between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but a confrontation “between the governor and the constitution.”
He warned, “The governor poses a threat to our democracy. It may be best for all of us to resign and let the governor and his collaborators carry on with their actions. We cannot continue to watch this happen.”
