Ramadan: Kebbi Government Reduces Working Hours For Civil Servants
The Kebbi State Government has announced a temporary reduction in official working hours for civil servants in observance of the holy month of Ramadan. The adjustment, according to state authorities, is aimed at enabling Muslim workers to fully participate in fasting, prayers, and other spiritual activities associated with the sacred period.
In a statement issued by the office of the Head of Service, the government explained that the revised schedule will run throughout Ramadan. Under the new arrangement, ministries, departments, and agencies are expected to close earlier than usual, allowing employees to return home in time to prepare for iftar and engage in evening devotions.
Officials noted that the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and respect for religious practices. “Ramadan is a time of reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal. Adjusting work hours demonstrates our sensitivity to the physical demands of fasting and our support for civil servants during this important period,” the statement read.
The government also emphasized that essential services, including healthcare, security, and emergency response units, will continue to operate without disruption. Heads of critical agencies have been directed to implement internal arrangements to ensure service delivery remains efficient while still accommodating staff needs.
Civil servants across the state have welcomed the move, describing it as thoughtful and timely. Many believe the shorter workday will help them balance official responsibilities with increased acts of worship, charity, and family commitments that typically define Ramadan.
Religious leaders in the state commended the initiative, urging workers to use the opportunity not only for spiritual growth but also to maintain discipline and productivity within the adjusted hours. They reminded public servants that fasting should reinforce integrity, compassion, and dedication to duty.
Kebbi joins several other states in Nigeria that traditionally modify working schedules during Ramadan to ease the burden on fasting employees. Observers say such measures foster goodwill between government and workers, while promoting harmony in a multi-religious society.
As the holy month progresses, the state government reiterated its call for peace, tolerance, and mutual respect among residents. Authorities expressed hope that the season would inspire renewed commitment to service and collective progress across Kebbi State.
