Kwankwaso Says Plateau Bloodshed is a National Emergency

Kwankwaso Says Plateau Bloodshed is a National Emergency

Former Kano State governor and presidential contender, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called for urgent and decisive action over the wave of killings in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria, warning that the situation has escalated beyond routine security challenges.

In a statement shared via his verified Facebook page, Kwankwaso described the recent violence as “barbaric” and urged authorities to treat the crisis as a national emergency rather than an isolated incident, a position echoed in reports by Daily Trust.

His remarks followed a deadly attack in Gari Ya Waye, a community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, where at least 27 people were reportedly killed and several others injured. The incident is the latest in a series of violent outbreaks that have continued to unsettle Plateau State and neighbouring regions (Channels Television).

Kwankwaso lamented what he termed a growing culture of impunity, arguing that persistent bloodshed reflects systemic leadership failures at multiple levels of governance. According to him, communities across the country are increasingly vulnerable, with violence becoming alarmingly frequent.

“The continued loss of lives in Plateau and other parts of the country cannot be treated as routine,” he stated, stressing that Nigerians deserve safety and stability irrespective of ethnic or religious identity.

He further urged both federal and state authorities to move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive measures capable of restoring order and protecting lives. Analysts, as noted by The Guardian Nigeria, have similarly raised concerns over the recurring nature of such attacks and the need for a more coordinated national security response.

Kwankwaso also extended his condolences to the families of those affected, describing the incident as a tragic reminder of the urgent need to prioritise human security across the country.

The latest attack has once again drawn national attention to the fragile security situation in parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with stakeholders increasingly calling for comprehensive reforms to address the root causes of violence.
