Adeleke Government Plots Attack on APC Members at Local Government Secretariat Today

The attention of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council has been drawn to a disturbing plot being orchestrated by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to unleash violence on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across local government secretariats in Osun State.
This latest development, if carried out, would further reinforce the dangerous and misguided belief within the camp of Governor Adeleke that violence and intimidation constitute a viable electoral strategy ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Information available to the Campaign Council indicates that notorious political thugs, disguised in Amotekun Corps uniforms, have been mobilized and drafted to various local government secretariats with the objective of forcefully taking control of the hallowed offices and provoking unrest in different parts of the state.
More disturbing is the involvement of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, and Nurudeen Alowonle, who are said to have been assigned the responsibility of leading gangs of political thugs to attack, harass and maim law-abiding APC members at the local government secretariats.
It is noteworthy that both Emir Ajagungbade and Nurudeen Alowonle were declared wanted by the police over a year ago. Since then, they have operated without restraint, raising serious concerns about the selective application of justice and the apparent inability or unwillingness of relevant authorities to bring them to account.
The Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council warns that any attack on our members anywhere in the state will be viewed as a direct assault on democracy and the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate and participate in the political process.
We therefore call on the Inspector-General of Police to immediately direct the arrest and prosecution of the two wanted individuals, Emir Ajagungbade and Nurudeen Alowonle, in accordance with the law. No society governed by the rule of law can afford to allow persons declared wanted by law enforcement agencies to continue operating with impunity.
We also urge security agencies to intensify surveillance around all local government secretariats and take proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The safety of innocent citizens and public officials must not be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation.
The people of Osun State deserve a peaceful, free and credible electoral process, devoid of violence, intimidation and lawlessness.
We urge our members to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant while continuing to cooperate with legitimate security agencies.
